Frequently Asked Questions
General Information:
What is Physiotherapy
Physiotherapy helps restore movement and function when someone is affected by injury, illness, or disability. It uses techniques such as exercise, manual therapy, education, and advice to improve mobility, reduce pain, and prevent future problems.
Do I need a GP referral?
No, you can usually book directly with a physiotherapist. Some insurance providers may require a GP referral for claims, but self-paying clients don’t need.
What happens at my first appointment?
Your physiotherapist will discuss your medical history, symptoms, and goals. They’ll assess your movement, strength, and posture before creating a tailored treatment plan.
What qualifications do you have?
All our physiotherapists are highly experienced in musculoskeletal care; they are HCPC-registered, and CSP members.
Booking:
Do you accept health insurance customers?
Yes, we are registered with private health insurers. Many private health insurance plans cover physiotherapy, though it depends on your provider and policy. Please check with us or your insurer before booking.
How can I book?
Appointments can be booked online, by phone, or at reception.
What’s your cancellation policy?
Please give us at least 24 hours’ notice if you need to cancel or reschedule your appointment.
Treatment & Care:
Do you provide exercises to do at home?
Yes, you’ll receive a personalised programme to support your recovery between sessions.
Do you offer home visits?
Please ask – in some cases, this may be possible.
How many sessions will I need?
This depends on your condition. Some people feel improvement after just a few sessions, while others may need longer-term support. Your physiotherapist will guide you on the expected timeline.
Do we accept Children Patients?
For children under the age of 18, we advise seeing a Paediatric Physiotherapist as they specialise in children’s health whilst their bones and muscles are still developing.
Can physiotherapy prevent future injuries?
Yes. Physiotherapists not only treat existing issues but also provide exercises, advice, and lifestyle guidance to reduce the risk of re-injury or new problems.
Does physiotherapy hurt?
Some techniques may cause mild discomfort as your body adapts, but physiotherapy should never be unbearably painful. Your therapist will always work within your tolerance.
Practicalities:
What should I wear?
Wear comfortable clothing that allows you to move freely. For certain treatments, your physiotherapist may need to access the area of pain (e.g., shorts for knee injuries).
Where are you located, and is there parking?
We’re based at 15-17 Queen’s Road, Watford, WD17 2LH. Parking is available via the Atria centre or local side streets.
